How can I strengthen a ostrich egg.I'm trying to transform eggs into jewelry holders but they are very brittle

The shell is about 1.5mm thick and very brittle at the hinge. I need a solution to soften the area as im glueing on the hinge.

1. I saw a thing as a kid were you soak and egg in vinegar for a few days, then you rolled it out put it in a bottle filled with water and it regained its shape. I never got around to trying it so I'm not sure if it works.
2. you might want to consider lining the egg with some kind of epoxy or resin to harden the egg some more. You can then drill and glue the hinge onto the egg. Why would you want to soften the area that you are gluing?
