  1. its called a rosary... the beads represent "hail Mary's"
  2. it's called a rosary and you use the beads to count your prayers. If you go to confession and the priest says you have to say 5 hail marys and 6 our fathers for penance then you use the beads to count how many times you said the prayer.

  4. It's a rosary. You use the beads to count your prayers at a confession.
  5. It's a Rosary. It is Catholic and each bead stands for the chant of the Rosary. During a Mass the Rosary is used in Prayer. I am not Catholic, but know many who Pray with the help of the Rosary beads.
  6. According to Catholic tradition, St. Dominic received the rosary from the Virgin Mary in 1214. "The word rosary comes from Latin and means a garland of roses, the rose being one of the flowers used to symbolize the Virgin Mary." The purpose of praying the rosary is for penance and the conversion of others. "There are many devotions of praying the Rosary, but the most commonly used is the five Decades, which consists of five sets of ten Hail Marys and at the end of each set concludes with one Our Father, an Apostle's Creed, Glory Be and Hail Holy Queen prayer are also included in a Rosary. This method of praying amongst Catholics is for a special praise, petition and reflections on the life of Christ. Each decade represents a mystery in the life of Christ. There are The Joyful Mysteries: The Announciation, The Visitation, The Nativity, The Presentation and The Finding in the Temple, The Luminous Mysteries: The Baptism of Jesus, The Wedding at Cana, The Proclamation of the Kingdom, TheTransfiguration of Jesus and The Institution of the Eucharist, The Sorrowful Mysteries: The agony in the garden, The scourging, The crowning with thorns, The carrying of the Cross and The Crucifixion, The Glorious Mysteries: The Resurrection, The Ascension, The Descent of The Holy spirit, The Assumption and The Coronation." "The Catholic rosary is made up of five decades of small beads, each bead meaning a Hail Mary, divided by a single, usually larger, bead meaning an Our Father. One of the larger beads is replaced by a medallion, often picturing the Virgin Mary, from which hangs two large beads, three small beads and a cross. It starts, as in all Catholic prayer, with the sign of the cross. Then, say the Apostles Creed on the crucifix. Next, say the Our Father on the first large bead, followed by three Hail Mary¹s on the small beads. The meaning of the next large bead is the Glory Be to the Father."
