Jewellery Stand

In the early '90's, what did the beads on an "Addabead" necklace or bracelet stand for ?"

I think they were supposed to represent the number of guys the girl wearing it had slept with,--sort of "keeping score" in a public way, but I am not sure. Is this correct, and if so, how did this folkway developed and if it still exists?

Public Comments

  1. I spent my 20's in the 90's and I don't recall that at all! Hmmm - interesting. I will have to check back for answers!
  2. Where did you get this nonsense? Lots of little girls had add-a-bead jewelry. It was just a way to collect gold beads or pearls. They were cute.
  3. It was a way of customizing jewelry. People liked to give "beads" or pendants as gifts. The idea you have about them came from a reference in "Silence of the Lambs".
